It has been seen in studies that first few seconds when a visitor lands on your site are the most important. You have to grab his attention then and there if you want his business. And the best way to do this is through a splash page.

A splash page is the page that comes to the screen while your main page is loading. It can be totally different than your main page in terms of color, scheme, theme header, footer basically everything. It can be and should be changed frequently changed may be every week. You can even limit its use per month.

Now there are two kinds of splash pages, to be very specific. One will invite the reader to your site and the other will promise to provide the visitor useful information if they sign up with you. The splash page that asks for information generally asks for the email address which takes a little time to write. Both these kinds can be used to help you in list building, the most important part of internet marketing. But in both cases you have to promise something to the visitor so that he or she is tempted to click on the links or give their email address on the splash page.

When a person scrolls the internet, he or she is looking for one or another kind of information. So make sure that your splash page boldly proclaims what kind of information you have. For the first kind that will provide a link to your site, your web page should have an attention grabbing headline that will promise a solution for the visitor. But don’t fib about it; make sure that you deliver what you promise if you really want that visitor to turn into a genuine customer.

A variety of things can be offered as free stuff for splash pages of the second kind. To start with, you can offer a free report or discounts and offers. If you are a for-profit website owner, you can use your splash page for variety of option. You can offer trial versions of software or report of the real estate market from a particular state. If it is your own business site, you can offer discounts and deals in regular basis through newsletters for which the visitor has to sign up through the splash page.
